What’s In the Name?

Ten years ago when I started embarking on the journey of opening my first business, I was in personally uncharted territory.

I had no idea what I was doing. This business was built on Google and a prayer. Things miraculously fell into place. But I needed a name.

My husband suggested finding words that mean something to me from a favorite book or art.

BINGO! I knew the name as soon as he made the suggestion.

“Women give birth to all kinds of things — to books, to churches, to movements. Women give birth to ideas, to creative expressions, to ministries. We birth life in others by inviting them into deeper realms of healing, to deeper walks with God, to deeper intimacy with Jesus,” Stasi Eldredge; Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman’s Soul.

In year 40 of my life, in the wake of deep loss, I was giving birth to a new expression of hope and healing in my life that I knew, deep in my bones, that I had to share with others.

Captivating. My business would be Captivating.

For 9 years we were Captivating Salon & Boutique. So why Collective?

The rebranding committee wanted a name that wasn’t so feminine. We also wanted a name that highlighted each artist as an independent, creative entity. I don’t manage the artists. I provide the space and resources and turn them loose.

Although we are autonomous, we are still a team. We are a family. We support each other. We inspire, motivate, and share strengths with each other. We do all this to benefit you. Because one thing I have learned, “We are better together.”

Rebranding Captivating

After three days of the best of Redken education and inspiration, the four of us took a day to run around Nashville.

Sitting at the bar of The Opryland Hotel, I half-jokingly said, let’s talk business so we can write this off. These ladies went with it.

Hope suggested interior design updates. Olivia threw out ideas to step up our social media game. Eliana proposed elevating the the take-home portion of our services. When we got home we put Kylie on a new logo design and she killed it.

That’s when it hit me, we need to rebrand. We need a new look. As we approach ten fabulous years of Captivating, the business has changed shape, especially in the past year. We added two young, crazy talented tattoo artists and a skilled waxing pro. Our original image limited us to hair and clothing and appealed more to the ladies. We are a whole lot more.

We are a collection of men and women who are independent artists with unique gifts and specialties. We have clients from all walks of life. We want to highlight the work of each individual while portraying that we are a team working together. We are better together.

The future is bright for The Captivating Collective Style & Design Parlour. As we improve the surroundings and services, one thing you can count on is being treated more like a friend than a customer. We want you to come in, grab a coffee and have a seat. We want you to enjoy the experience as much as the results. We are all better together.

As always, I am enjoying the ride!
